The Challenge

Key Issues

Spark came into the world just three weeks after the start of the October 7th war in Israel. When Mati Skiba had to leave his home in northern Israel due to an evacuation, he noticed that the different civil teams and urban tactical response teams being established across the country were in need of a better management and communication system. Mati successfully created a platform to address management issues with the assistance of a dedicated group of volunteers. Ensuring effective communication for everyone proved to be quite challenging.
  • Internet Independant
    The communications and scrambling platform needed to work in situations where internet access isn't available.
  • Network Neutral
    Communications should be available across all Israeli communications networks, mobile, landline and even kosher phones.
  • Privacy and Security
    Communications needed to be recorded and accounted for in a secured fashion, ensuring the data is kept securely at all times.
  • Device Support
    Communications was to be available on any mobile device, even legacy (non-smart) devices.

Impact of Challenges

As a result of the above challenges, and a requirement to develop a “Walkie-Talkie” like communication experience, without requiring the participants to have a mobile application, or any internet connectivity – a communications platform needed to be built from “scratch” to facilitate these services.

  • Carrier Agnostic
    Cloudonix enabled connecting the communications platform to 3 different mobile operators, ensuring service stability and reliability in harsh conditions and across multiple mobile networks.
  • Device Agnostic
    Communications was to be performed regular phone calls, but, enabled real-time streaming of the audio to the platforms control platform. This approach enabled Spark developers to use voice-activation controls on traditional phones.
